Jio Electric cycle : In a move that has caught both the mobility and technology sectors by surprise, Reliance Jio has unveiled its first-ever electric cycle, bringing its disruptive business philosophy to India’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle market. The Jio E-Glide, launched yesterday at a high-energy event in Mumbai, promises to revolutionize urban commuting with what the company calls “industry-leading range and next-generation connectivity features” while maintaining an accessible price point aimed at the mass market.
Jio Electric cycle Breaking Range Anxiety: Power That Keeps Going
The headline feature of the Jio E-Glide is undoubtedly its impressive range. While most electric cycles in the market struggle to cross the 60-70 kilometer mark on a single charge, Jio claims the E-Glide can achieve up to 125 kilometers, effectively eliminating the range anxiety that plagues most electric mobility solutions.
“We identified battery range as the primary pain point for potential e-cycle adopters,” explains Vikram Mehta, newly appointed head of Jio Mobility. “Our engineering team spent two years developing a proprietary battery management system that optimizes power delivery based on riding conditions, terrain, and user preferences.”
The secret lies in the dual-battery system – a fixed 48V 10.4Ah primary unit integrated into the down tube and a removable 48V 7.8Ah secondary pack that sits neatly behind the seat post. Both batteries utilize advanced lithium-ion cells sourced from Reliance’s recent acquisition of a battery technology startup based in Pune.
During the demonstration, company representatives showed how the cycle automatically switches between batteries to maximize efficiency, with real-time range predictions displayed on the handlebar-mounted control unit. More impressively, the batteries reach 80% capacity in just 2.5 hours using a standard home outlet, with a full charge taking under 4 hours.
Head-Turning Design: Aesthetics Meet Functionality
Breaking away from the utilitarian appearance that characterizes most e-cycles in the market, the Jio E-Glide boasts sleek lines and thoughtful design elements that mask its electric underpinnings at first glance.
“We wanted to create something people would ride proudly, not just because it’s practical but because it looks fantastic,” says Priya Sharma, Lead Designer for the project. “The goal was to make a cycle that happens to be electric, not an electric contraption that resembles a cycle.”
The frame, available in four colorways including a striking electric blue and matte graphite, features hydroformed aluminum with internally routed cables for a clean appearance. The battery integration is so seamless that casual observers might miss the electric assist entirely.(Jio Electric cycle) Puncture-resistant 27.5-inch tires with reflective sidewalls add both practicality and visual flair, while integrated LED lighting at both ends enhances safety and contributes to the modern aesthetic.
The attention to detail extends to the ergonomics as well, with an adjustable stem that accommodates riders of different heights and a specially designed saddle that promises comfort during extended rides.
Smart Features: Jio’s Tech DNA Shines Through
As expected from a company with Jio’s technological pedigree, the E-Glide comes packed with connectivity features that set it apart from competitors. Each cycle includes built-in 4G connectivity (with five years of complimentary data) that enables anti-theft tracking, remote diagnostics, and over-the-air updates to the cycle’s firmware.
The handlebar control unit doubles as a smart display that can show navigation instructions, fitness metrics, and incoming message notifications when paired with the rider’s smartphone. A dedicated Jio E-Glide app allows users to customize power delivery across five assist levels, lock the cycle remotely, and even participate in community challenges with other riders.
“This isn’t just transportation – it’s a platform,” insists Mehta. “We’re already working with developers to create apps that leverage the E-Glide’s capabilities, from fitness tracking to last-mile delivery optimization for businesses.”
The cycle also features a USB charging port for devices and an optional front basket with integrated solar charging that can extend range by up to 10% during sunny conditions.

Jio Electric cycle Market Disruption: Aggressive Pricing Strategy
Perhaps most surprising is Jio’s pricing strategy. With a starting price of ₹29,999 for the base model (including both batteries), the E-Glide undercuts most comparable e-cycles by nearly 40%. The premium variant, which adds a suspension fork, 9-speed Shimano gears, and hydraulic disc brakes, is priced at ₹37,999.
“We’re applying the same principles that made Jio a telecommunications giant,” explains Anand Rajaraman, Director of Strategy at Reliance Jio. “Aggressive pricing, superior technology, and a robust ecosystem of services around the core product.”
Industry analysts see this move as potentially disruptive to both the traditional cycle market and the nascent electric two-wheeler segment. “At this price point, with these features, Jio could accelerate e-cycle adoption dramatically,” notes mobility consultant Karan Singhania. “They’re essentially offering premium features at mainstream prices.”
The Jio E-Glide will be available for pre-order through the Jio website and MyJio app starting next week, with deliveries beginning in August across 12 major cities before expanding nationwide by Diwali.
